The Heraldry of the Chief of MacTavish
The arms of Dugald MacTavish of Dunardry, as they appear on his website, are as below~
The blazon as given on his website is ~

Quarterly, 1st and 4th Gyronny of eight Sable and Or; 2nd and 3rd, Argent, a buck's head cabossed Gules attired or on a Chief engrailed Azure a cross crosslet fitchèe (sic) between two mullets of the Third.

At first sight these arms would appear to be those of a gentleman surnamed Thomson-Campbell, as the Campbell gyronny appears in the pronominal and fourth quarters, and the arms of an indeterminate Thomson cadet feature in the second and third quarters. However, the Lord Lyon has matriculated them as the arms of the Chief of Name and Arms of MacTavish.

It is strange that the Thomson arms of the second and third quarters do not follow the blazon. The buck’s head is portrayed as that of a stag; the charges on the chief are silver instead of gold; and the chief is undy, not engrailed.

Accordingly, these arms, as illustrated, do not belong to anyone.
